Matt Seals' jersey retired

In the final home game of the season, John Hay Elementary paused to honor the life of Matt Seals, a student there from 2001-2007.

In front of a packed gymnasium, Matt's family, friends, and former teammates were recognized as his framed jersey was retired.

As a student at John Hay, Matt played basketball for three years and helped the team to a three year record of 37-10.

As a player, Matt always played hard with great determination and it was these qualities that he showed when he began facing a different type of opponent.   Although his illness made him unable to play his beloved sports, he continued to attend events and cheer on his teams.

Matt was determined - he got his high school diploma a year early because his opponent was closing in on him.  Last May, Matt began his Heavenly journey.  Matt Seals was only on this earth for 18 short years, but he will always be remembered for how he played his opponents on and off the court.
