Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced today that John Hay Elementary School had received the great honor of being named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This tremendous honor is a reflection of the efforts of our students, our teachers and staff, parents and family members, and the support of the school and school system's leadership in promoting academic excellence. In 2012, only six schools in Tennessee were recognized for this great accomplishment of student achievement.

"Our nation had no greater responsibility than helping all children realize their full potential," U.S. Education Secretary Aren Duncan said in a prepared statement. "Schools honored with the National Blue Ribbon Schools award are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Their work reflects the conviction that every child has promise and that education is the surest pathway to a strong, secure future."
