Subjects Taught

I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee.  I have a BA degree with a major in theater arts and a MS degree with a major in Curriculum and Instruction.

I can't believe I am starting my 35th year at John Hay Elementary!  I began my career by student teaching in the fifth grade with Mrs. Pat Hughes and Mrs. Georgia Rowlett.  Mr. J.B. Shockley then hired me to teach first grade reading in January of 1980.  I worked at John Hay in the mornings, then I went to West Elementary and worked in the special education department in the afternoons.  The following September I returned to John Hay full time in the fifth grade where I worked with Mrs. Rowlett, followed by Mrs. Dolores Moore, Mrs. Connie Nelms, and Mrs. Wendy Jones.  I left fifth grade to teach reading in 2002, and returned to the regular classroom two years later.  I taught fourth grade for three years and returned to my first love, fifth grade, in August of 2008.  I have been lucky to teach with some great partners and have had wonderful principals for my entire career.  I retired from full time teaching in May 2010, and started a part-time position teaching math in all grade levels.  I am loving this position and my new schedule.  I have more free time to spend with my family, especially my grandson, Anderson!

Welcome to my web site!  I am excited to be a member of the John Hay School family.  I have been married to my husband, Rich, for 36 years.  We have two wonderful sons, Adam and Matthew, two precious daughters-in-law, Jessica Holbert Noe (Adam's wife), and Julia Bacon Noe. We have one grandson, Anderson Lee and another grandchild coming in March of 2015.  We attend The Avenue Church where we serve as Elders, Children's Director, and on the Leadership Team.  I love to sing, and am a member our church praise and worship team.  When I have any free time I read!  Some of my favorite authors are Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson, and Beth Moore.  I love all types of music (except twangy country), especially praise and worship music, and classical.  I enjoy going to the movies and watching good TV.  I absolutely love to teach math!  I have the very best job in the world at the very best school!  I feel blessed to be where I am in my life.
